The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has suspended GoldWin's licence, an online gambling company previously fined by the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA).
The suspension occurred because the company’s actions “represent an imminent threat of serious prejudice to the interest of players”, the MGA said on Wednesday (October 2).
The company was found to be in violation of licence conditions that call for licence holders to meet commitments to players in a timely manner, or that the authority believed it was about to fail to meet commitments.
The company offers online gambling under the Goldwin and westcasino brand names.
The Malta-based company was fined €6.8m in October 2023 by the KSA for allowing Dutch residents to gamble without a gambling licence.
The KSA did not respond in time for deadline to a question about whether it has been able to collect the fine.
Goldwin needs to give players access to their accounts and offer refunds, the MGA said.
Westcasino lists no gambling licence on its website, although its terms and conditions refer to the MGA.
The Malta authority found “material and sufficient” reason to suspend the licence, but the company can appeal the decision.
